Troubleshooting Common Scenarios
Why does the Side Panel say "Cannot inspect this page" or fail to open?
Chromium enforces strict security boundaries. Extensions cannot run on:
- Internal browser pages (e.g.,
chrome://settings,chrome://extensions,chrome://newtab) - The official Chrome Web Store gallery website
- Local file URLs (
file:///) unless you explicitly check "Allow access to file URLs" inchrome://extensionsunder TokenCraft details.
Solution: Navigate to any live website (like github.com or your local development server http://localhost:3000) and click the TokenCraft icon again.
Why do some colors on a webpage not update when changed in the panel?
TokenCraft analyzes computed styles across active DOM nodes. Certain elements may resist live CSS overrides if:
- The colors are embedded inside bitmap images,
<canvas>drawings, or external SVG files rendered inside<img>tags. - The webpage uses shadow DOM with closed encapsulation boundaries.
- Elements have hardcoded inline styles with conflicting
!importantrules.
Solution: Use the "Inspect elements" button in TokenCraft to point-and-click directly on the specific element to sample and apply targeted styling overrides.
How does the EyeDropper screen sampler work?
TokenCraft leverages the modern native Chromium EyeDropper API. Clicking "Pick from screen" transforms your cursor into a precision magnifying loupe, allowing you to sample pixels anywhere on your desktop screen—even outside browser tabs or from desktop wallpapers.
Note: If the EyeDropper does not trigger, ensure you are running Google Chrome 95+ or Edge 95+ on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
Where are my saved themes stored?
When you click "Save theme for this site", TokenCraft saves your customized palette in Chrome's sandboxed chrome.storage.local key-value store associated with the specific domain hostname (e.g., example.com).
This data is 100% private and stays strictly on your computer. It is never synced to any cloud server or shared across domains.
How do I restore the page to its original unmodified design?
Simply click the "Reset page" button in the TokenCraft tool row, or press F5 / reload in your browser. All injected styles are completely wiped cleanly without leaving any residue.
